“Having born and brought up in Gujarat and in Gujarati culture, Makar Sankranti or Uttarayan has always been a special festival for me and my family. Every year on January 14th and 15th, we enjoy the kite flying with family as well as neighbors. This festive time is also the time for shopping and more interestingly Undhiyu, which just adds to all the festive cheer.”

“There are a lot of memories attached to this festival, I remember our entire family comes together, sits and spends quality time with each other while enjoying traditional food as well as traditional activities. This is also the time when Gujarat hosts the kite flying festival, which I believe is surreal and something that one should definitely attend once in lifetime.”

“The best part of Uttarayan in Gujarat is that an evening before the festival, we all go out for shopping to buy clothes and kites and phirkis. On the day of the Uttarayan before we had the weather forecast, we used to go to the terrace every morning and check the wind conditions to ensure they are suitable to fly kites. There are some amazing memories related to this festival and I am looking forward to create many such amazing memories every year.”

Ajay Chaudhary (Pralay on Sony SAB's Tenali Rama)

My father was in Army so I have had the opportunity to travel various cities around the country. I have witnessed this festival in various cities in my childhood. What I loved and continue to love is the enthusiasm this festival brings. My fondest memory is of Gujarat where during Sankrant the sky is full of colourful kites. It used to excite me a lot as a kid. Spending the entire day on the roof while munching on sweets was something I still look forward to.

Akshay Kelkar (Abhishek on Sony SAB's Bhakharwadi)

Makar Sankranti is my favourite festival and I have my fondest memories tied to this festival of kites. I really enjoy flying kites and in my childhood I used to carefully spend the money given by my mother to buy kites. The most fun for me was to fly the kites which I ran behind for. I miss the enthusiasm of this festival but this year I finally had the chance to fly kite on the sets of Bhakharwadi while munching on Til Gudd laddoos and it was like reliving my childhood memories of Makar Sankranti.
