Future Talents of Myanmar ICT Industry Blossom from Myanmar National Cloud & AI Contest



[Yangon, Myanmar, September 11, 2019] – The final selection event and awarding ceremony of the first Myanmar National Cloud & AI Contest, which is co-organized by Rectors Committee, Research & Development Institute of Ministry of Education, and Myanmar Computer Federation, supported by Huawei Company, was held on September 7th at MICT Hall in Hlaing Township Yangon. The top 11 shortlisted teams from computer and technology universities across the country presented their projects written for various sectors in front of a panel of judges, guests, and media. Winning teams were selected in accordance with the principles of the contest and awarded at the end of the event.

The winners are selected based on specific criteria including technical maturity, technology foresight, idea originality, solution progressive, business scenario, economic feasibility, interactive design and creative manner. All Cloud and AI technology for contest are provided by world leading Huawei cloud platform. Winning teams are awarded with Huawei internship opportunities, Huawei products and Huawei Certificate Vouchers and Honor of Education (HoE) Certificates according to different prize level.



The aim of the Huawei Cloud & AI Contest is to provide an opportunity of growth and challenge for the up-coming generation of talented youth as they prepare the way forward into the technology wave including IoT, 5G, Cloud and AI. With the commitment of building a fully connected, intelligent world, Huawei also conducted a number of activities to support ICT talent development in Myanmar. Such activities included signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Huawei and the Rectors’ Committee, giving ICT Talent Development Scholarships to excellent students to cultivate the next generation of ICT experts fulfilling the growing needs of talents in Myanmar ICT sector.



Dr. Myo Kwe, president of National Education Policy Commission, said “This contest could benefit the future of Myanmar Education and should be encouraged. All total 117 teams registered, and final top eleven teams are selected among them. From this contest, all participated students will achieve the moral benefit like the team spirit, leadership skills, innovative ideas and technically wider knowledge about the cutting-edge technologies like AI and Cloud. I would like to thank to Huawei, Rectors’ Committee, Myanmar Computer Federation and Department of Research and Innovation who supported and organized this Cloud & AI contest.”



Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, Chairman of Rectors’ Committee said, “We are happy, excited and proud to see that titles and technologies used for the projects are using cutting-edge technologies like Cloud and AI to create solutions that are useful for our country. We would like to announce locally and globally that our students are the ones who can show their abilities whenever there is a chance. We are also thankful for getting the opportunity to show off their strength. These kinds of event should hold more and more in the future as well as creating advanced programs for those who won today competition.”

Postgraduate Teams

Team Spirit

One of the post-graduated teams, Team Spirit was organized with three students from University of Computer Studies, Yangon. They firmly presented about their own application, called "????????" which can alleviate and solve the traffic jams and problems around Yangon areas.



Team DataJook

The application which will assist people with disability by using AI Tensorflow technology, was designed by three post graduated students from University of Computer Studies, Yangon, also known as "Team DataJook", and also participated as one of competitive applications.



Team Taohm_Thu

Team Taohm_Thu was established by sixth year students from University of Computer Studies, Mandalay who had created an application to encourage the agriculture sector by providing a loan system. They explained at the contest about how their application can be used beneficially.



Team TNC Stars

An application which can generate positive or negative result of heart disease of a person, was brought to the presentation by "Team TNC Stars". All of the team members were from University of Computer Studies, Yangon and they displayed how their application assist the health sector.



Team Binary

"Team Binary", the combination of two students from Edinburgh Napier University (Myanmar Campus) and University of Information and Technology developed an application with Customer Face Recognition system.This application will efficiently help business sector, especially for shopping malls and restaurants.



Undergraduate Teams

Team UCSY-Virus

Three fourth year students from University of Computer Studies formed "Team UCSY-Virus to participate in Myanmar National Cloud & AI Contest 2019 to show off their “Healthcare AI App”, provided with artificial intelligence, where people can seek disease within their body. They also demonstrated how medical application support the health sector in a specific way.



Team SKL

A team, who will introduce an application to calculate the amount of calorie consumed by a person, is "Team SKL". The team is set up by students from Kyaukse Technological University. They will show how a person can enjoy their healthy life by using this application.



Team Info

Team Info, one of the undergraduate teams, formed by three third year students of Taunggyi Technological University, discussed about an application which will practice AI system in scanning code numbers of books from library automatically. This application can save both time and human resource affirmatively.



Team UCS

The next team from under graduated session was "Team UCS" and they offered an application with “Paddy insects detection system” which will assist farmers, concerning to the insect problems in their lands.



Team_YCSM

Three students from Yantanarpon Cyber City and University of Computer Studies, Mandalay cooperated together as "Team_YCSM" and they delivered an application where users can pay their electric bills conveniently.



Team Travel

"Team Travel" from Meiktila Technological University illustrated their application, "Image Dictionary" which runs with "Tensor Folwo Framework" AI technology. This innovative application can search (or) define the meaning of an object by its scanning image.
